Why this matters
Alien registration with Form G-325R remains in effect. Before registering, confirm whether you are already registered and consult a lawyer.
What is happening
The alien registration requirement, using the online Form G-325R, took effect on April 11, 2025 and remains active in 2026. It applies to certain noncitizens age 14 or older who have been in the U.S. 30 days or more and were not previously registered.
Who it affects
Most green card holders, visa holders, people with a work permit (EAD), or those processed at the border are already registered and do not need to do anything new. The requirement mainly targets people who were never registered.
What to do now
- Confirm whether you are already registered before acting (USCIS offers a determination tool).
- Not registering can bring fines or criminal charges, but registering also exposes information.
- Consult a lawyer or accredited organization before deciding, especially if you are undocumented.
